| ' | 2003 Daytime Emmy Awards Report My favorite time of year....awards show season! The Bold and the Beautiful was well represented again this year with several nominations. Both Adrienne Frantz (Amber) and Jennifer Finnigan (Bridget) were nominated for Outstanding Younger Actress. Susan Flannery was up for Oustanding Lead Actress. And for the first time ever, The Bold and the Beautiful was nominated for Best Daytime Drama. It's about time the academy realized what I've known for the past 16 years. To my delight, both Miss Finnigan and Miss Flannery won their catagories....just as they did last year! I'm disappointed that both Miss Frantz and Jennifer couldn't win, but the same catagory....what can you do? And although "the" show did not win for Best Drama, I'm still proud as proud can be that they were nominated. The show was a 3-hour long extravaganza! Unfortunately, it was lots of filler and talking. The highlight (actually it was the low light, but so bad it was good) was a musical number featuring 9 soap stars singing. The theme was "love" and each of the actors sang a song that had the word love in the title. It was a delicious train wreck. There seemed to be no rhyme nor reason with song selection or what singers were chosen. Here's a run down and my critique. Ron Raines (Alan, Guiding Light) sang "Can You Feel the Love Tonight." He's got a great voice, but a little theatrical for my tastes. Susan Lucci (Erica, All My Children) crooned "They Say That Falling In Love Is Wonderful" from her stint on Broadway's Annie Get Your Gun. A fine rendidtion of an old favorite. Then Eden Riegel (Bianca, All My Children) took a stab at "I Honestly Love You." It was horrendous! Then Eva LaRue (Maria, All My Children) made a pass at "Love at First Sight" - the dance hit by Kylie Minogue. Such a very, very bad idea. Wally Kurth (Ned, General Hospital) did well with "When a Man Loves a Woman". Kassie DePavia (Blair, One Life To Live" was forced to sing "Love Shack." Nice voice, but such a bad song choice for her. Ricky Paull Goldin (Gus, Guiding Light) did a nice rendition of "Crazy Little Thing Called Love." Kyle Lowder's wonderful voice was compeltely wasted on "Do You Love Me (Now That I Can Dance)." Where's David Hasslehoff when you need him? Tamara Tune (Jessica, As The World Turns), a fabulous Broadway singer, couldn't quite find the pitch for "What's Love Got to Do With It." The biggest problem was that each singer got about 15 seconds of song to sing. Tragic. Then they all joined together for "All You Need Is Love." I hated it. I loved it. Here's the award results: Outstanding Youger Actor and Actress: Jordi Vilasuso (Tony, Guidling Light) Jennifer Finnigan (Bridget, The Bold and the Beautiful) Oustanding Supporting Actor and Actress: Benjamin Hendrickson (Hal, As The World Turns) Vanessa Marcil (Brenda, General Hospital) Oustanding Lead Actor and Actress: Maurice Benard (Sonny, General Hospital) Susan Flannery (Stephanie, The Bold and the Beautiful) Oustanding Drama Series: As The World Tunrs

The streak was over! Miss Susan Lucci finally snagged a trophy at the 1999 Emmy Awards. And Adrienne Frantz wore a red ribbon in, well, a spot Mr SmartyPants wouldn't have recommended. Click here to read! |
