The World Is Not EnoughIt's a James Bond movie. I think the best review of this 007 flick came from two French friends visiting from Paris the weekend it was released. Jean-Francois and Jean-Francois (we differentiate them from each other by adding "petite" or "grande" to the end of their names) were so excited to see a James Bond film it's first week in release in English in the United States. When they returned from the cinema I asked them if they understood all the dialog. They replied "It does no matter what they say. It is all action. That is what we want."
Well put.
As per usual, there are tons of implausible stunts and impossible get-aways. (How come the bad guys are always such horrid shots when they are shooting at 007?) Judi Densch adds a touch of actual acting to her role of M and gets a lot more screen time than usual. Denise Richards adds a lot of (unintentional) comedy as Christmas Jones, world-famous nuclear scientist. Jeez, that girl is one bad actress. But she looks find and dandy in a tank top and hiking shorts. Do her thespian skills really matter at this point?
The plot involves an oil heiress who escaped from kidnappers and her new pipeline is under attack and her father was a good friend of M but he's dead now and the kidnapper wants to steal a nuclear submarine and...oh, who really cares.
Listen to me: It's a James Bond movie. You already know if you will like it or not. Obviously I did or I wouldn't have gone to see it in the first place.
